Norfolk County signs multi-year AFSCME agreements, commissioners approve formal signatures

Norfolk County officials asked the commission to formalize and sign three-year collective-bargaining agreements with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) locals representing maintenance, registry and engineering units.
Director Cronin told commissioners the contracts had been negotiated earlier in the fiscal year and that the county had already been operating under the agreed terms since July 1, 2025. He said AFSCME returned minor edits and representatives expected to appear in person next week; the county asked commissioners to sign so the documents can be posted as controlling documents for each local for the next three years.
Although Cronin described the request as largely a formality, legal counsel recommended the commission vote to approve the integrated agreements. A motion to approve the agreements and provide signatures was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
County staff said they may use commissioners' signature stamps to endorse the contracts if needed and that representatives from AFSCME would be invited to sign when available.
