Jamie Noon, CEO of Casa of the River Region, told the council that CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) provides trained volunteers to speak for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Noon said 73 children in Bullitt County currently have CASA volunteers, but 186 children remain in the system without an advocate. "Every volunteer matters, every hour matters, every child matters," Noon said, urging community members to consider volunteering and describing flexible training options, including a local training offering in 2026 and one‑on‑one make‑up options for experienced volunteers.
Council members praised the program and said staff would help promote volunteer recruitment through city social media and direct outreach. Noon also referenced national and regional recruitment goals and said CASA can onboard volunteers who begin training immediately by catching them up to the most recent class.
No formal action was taken; council asked staff to coordinate follow‑up publicity and to invite CASA back in the spring for an update on recruitment progress.
