Commissioner Burke told the Walker City Commission on Nov. 24 that he plans to resign early next year because commuting to a new position in Cincinnati has become untenable.
Burke said he intends to announce his resignation in the spring so the commission will have the full month required to find a replacement; he said he expects to remain for the Dec. 22 meeting and that a recent house closing that fell through will keep him local until at least spring. "I'm intending to announce my resignation probably beginning of the year," he said, and added he will wait until May so the commission has a full month to find a replacement.
Burke said he is proud of work on the fire department and the master plan and believes the city is moving in a positive direction. Colleagues thanked him for his service and commended his contributions.
What’s next: Burke’s announced timeline gives the commission time to initiate whatever appointment or electoral process the city requires to fill the Ward 1 vacancy; staff and commissioners did not take formal action at the meeting.
