Residents raise traffic-safety concerns and urge Jackson County to oppose Florida bill HB 479 during public comment

Another public commenter (Speaker 5) reported a blind spot and drivers running a stop sign at the Rachel Road and Smoky Road crossroads, suggested speed bumps, flashing lights or converting the intersection to a four-way stop, and asked staff to investigate; Speaker 4 said staff would follow up and check with Miss Register and Jeffrey.
State policy and solar projects: Karen Chung (Speaker 9), identifying herself as from Greenwood, asked the commission to consider a resolution similar to one passed by the Collier County Board of County Commissioners opposing certain Florida Power & Light rate increases on high-cost solar projects. Chung also warned about a proposed Florida bill she referred to as HB 479 (filed by Republican representative Randy Magar of Pasco County, as stated in her remarks) and said the bill would preempt local authority over water quality, wetlands and pollution-control rules; she urged outreach to state lawmakers Shane Abbott and Jay Trumbull and asked the county to alert the public.
