Crafton council adopts balanced 2026 budget, keeps property millage unchanged

Crafton Borough Council voted to adopt the borough's 2026 budgets and related resolutions at its final 2025 meeting.
Finance committee members reported account balances through Nov. 30 and recommended adoption of four fund budgets. The finance chair said the consolidated funds balance was $6,222,929 and described the proposed 2026 budgets as "a balanced budget with no tax increase." Council then voted to adopt the budgets for the general, road, sewer and capital improvement funds.
Separately, council set the borough property millage at 8.59 mills for real estate taxes — "No change from 2025," the finance chair said — and passed a 2026 fee schedule resolution to update many fees that had not been adjusted in about 20 years. The fee schedule motion was presented as a periodic update reflecting staff wages and inflation; the chair noted the schedule can be adjusted during the year if needed.
Council also moved to appoint Maura Dussell as the borough's financial auditor for fiscal year 2025 at a budgeted amount of $20,150; that motion passed.
Councilors and staff said final year-end totals would be reported in January and that more detailed budget materials would be available in the new year.
