Chair opened the meeting and made several announcements including recognition of county staff and details about upcoming events. He recognized Ellen Williams of the circuit clerk’s office for her 20th work anniversary and thanked her for her service to Stephenson County.
The chair also outlined UCCI events and the National Association of Counties (NACo) legislative conference in Washington, D.C., Feb. 21–24. "UCCI will reimburse a flat $2,000 per county for a board member or board members to attend the conference," he said, noting that the reimbursement may be used for registration, travel, lodging and meals and that registration rates rise after certain dates ("$550 if it's done by December 3; $600 Dec. 4–Jan. 14; $800 after January 15"). He listed upcoming membership meeting dates (Jan. 26 and Feb. 23).
During public comment, Adam Madero described a volunteer prairie restoration event at Severson Dells Nature Preserve (the former Elliott Golf Course) planned for January 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. He said volunteers will seed special golf balls with prairie plants so that wherever the ball lands in spring, flowers will grow. "They're seeding the golf ball with prairie plants," Madero said, and invited interested people to speak to him after the meeting for more details.
There were no other public comments recorded at the meeting.
