Warren Township High School District 121 trustees on Tuesday approved a resolution authorizing the districts final aggregate tax levy for 2025 and discussed growing pressure from rising employee health-insurance costs.
District staff told trustees the proposed aggregate levy does not exceed the prior years extension by more than 105 percentand therefore a public levy hearing was not required before filing. The district estimated the local impact at about $95 on a $400,000 home. The board voted by roll call to adopt the resolution.
"We're responsible for how we use the taxpayers' funds," said Speaker 9 during the budget discussion, urging the board to consider steps to manage costs. Trustees and staff noted materials in the superintendent's report showed health-insurance cost increases in the range of 17 percent to 22 percent and said prescription-drug and outpatient spending have been accelerating.
District staff recommended filing the levy documents with the county by the December 30 deadline. Speaker 4, presenting the levy, also cited the statutorily required public-act calculation shown to the board (Public Act 1030394 appeared in the presentation materials) to confirm the districts three-year average fund-balance calculation and that no additional disclosure steps were required.
Trustees discussed next steps for the insurance matter and encouraged the districts insurance committee to review options at its next scheduled meetings in January, with board members invited to attend or join remotely. The resolution passed by roll call; the board did not amend levy amounts at the meeting.
Next steps: the district will file levy paperwork with the county and the board expects the countys calculations to be released in spring with the formal extension figure.
