Eagle Pass approves multiple grant-funded equipment purchases for police and fire

During the Dec. 9 meeting, the Eagle Pass City Council approved a series of grant- and contract-funded purchases to modernize police and fire equipment.
Police recommended a cloud-based video-management and evidence-storage system from Motorola after the department experienced a server drive failure; staff said cloud storage would secure evidentiary video and mitigate future data-loss risk. The council approved the contract not to exceed $85,000 per fiscal year for up to three years under a Texas Smart Buy contract.
Police also asked to purchase additional APX Next radios (not to exceed $117,440.95) and to acquire a fourth mobile wireless CCTV unit using grant funding (not to exceed $61,469.69); council approved both purchases unanimously. Staff said the mobile cameras have assisted in arson, property and reckless-driving investigations.
Fire Department requests included 10 APX Next dual-band portable radios (Lone Star grant, not to exceed $109,267.38), a custom-built utility task vehicle equipped for rescue and patient transport (not to exceed $102,423), and specialized swift-water and technical rescue equipment (not to exceed $60,458); all items were approved by council.
City staff and council praised proactive grant-seeking by police and fire leadership and said the equipment will improve response capability and evidence management. All purchases were approved without recorded opposition.
