Planning commission forwards rezoning recommendation for Ramsey Auto Center to city council

The Glendale Planning Commission voted to forward a recommendation of approval for rezoning case ZON25-11, which would change the subject property from M-2 (heavy industrial) to C-3 (heavy commercial).
Planner Miss Torella said the property, at the northwest corner of 51st Avenue and Camelback Road, is developed with automotive repair and office uses and is surrounded by commercial uses on several sides. She said the proposal would downzone the lot to better match nearby commercial uses and allow end users that the existing development can accommodate. Miss Torella reported that all public notification requirements were met, a neighborhood meeting was held Oct. 22, and no comments were received during the notification period. Staff recommended the commission forward a recommendation of approval to the city council.
An applicant, Nicholas Cianciola, spoke briefly and thanked staff for assistance, saying he had not realized Arrowhead Mall is in Glendale: "This is the first time I realized that Arrowhead Mall is in Glendale." He offered no substantive changes to the application.
A motion to recommend approval as written was made and seconded; the commission conducted a roll call vote, recording Commissioners Crowe, Cole, Gears, Hooper and Arellano in favor. Mister Gruber explained the commission’s action is a recommendation and not final; the recommendation will be forwarded to the city council for further consideration.
No council hearing date was provided during the meeting.
