At a Dec. 16 committee meeting of the Seven Hills City Council, members voted to place an annual contract with the Parma jail on the full council agenda as an emergency item to avoid interruption in detainee housing services.
Councilman Elliott moved to place the contract on the agenda as an emergency; Council Pro Tem Costanza seconded. During the discussion, the city’s police chief said, “Every year, we use a couple [jails]. Parma is one of the main ones,” and asked that the contract be handled on an emergency basis so there would be “no interruption in the service.” The chief also said the contract rate is about $225 per day.
The motion succeeded on a roll call that recorded affirmative votes from Costanza, Kelly and Elliott. The committee discussion also included an update on a related facilities project: painting and dorm work is ongoing and staff projected a February–March timeframe for completion.
The committee’s vote placed the contract on the upcoming council agenda as an emergency item; the transcript does not record a final contract approval at the committee level. The council is expected to consider the item at the next full meeting where a final vote or additional motions would be recorded.
