On Dec. 9 the Defiance City Council confirmed recommended salary adjustments for several staff classifications. Finance or human-resources staff presented proposed adjustments of 4.5% for nonbargaining employees, 15.5% for three engineering technician 3 positions, and a 31% adjustment for a project manager role.
Council members asked questions about the project manager position, noting an upcoming retirement and the cost of replacing that experience. One member observed it would likely cost more to hire a contractor or consultant than to retain or promote a staff project manager. Staff said they will work to develop internal candidates over the next couple of years to transfer institutional knowledge.
The council moved to adopt the confirmations and approved them during the meeting.
