Members of the Royal Palm Beach Strikers reflected on a recently completed "slam" tournament, thanking volunteers and staff while flagging operational issues to resolve for next year.
Veil Hassan, a board member who led the meeting, said the tournament was a success and praised parking management and communications: "Great job by everybody," she said, adding that communication via walkie-talkies worked well. Amanda, the treasurer, reported gross concession sales for the weekend of $6,807.50.
At the same time, board members discussed complaints about referees (which they said were outside the club’s control) and flagged safety concerns when field lights were dim during some Friday and Saturday games. "People had stated some safety concerns regarding the lack of lighting," Hassan said.
A separate operational concern was that one team largely failed to provide required volunteer shifts. Vanessa Donadio and others debated responses, including charging the team, requiring make-up volunteer work, or assigning the missed volunteer hours as conditions to participate next season. The board favored giving teams an opportunity to make up missed hours before imposing a fee, but noted enforcement options should be clarified.
The board also agreed to preserve the trophy/medal format for future tournaments to save costs by reusing plates.
Next steps include finalizing volunteer enforcement policy, following up on referee feedback, and ensuring lighting and field-line issues are addressed before the spring season.
