Votes at a glance: Conway council approves forestry grant, boards appointments and park lighting

The Conway City Council approved several routine but actionable items during its meeting.

Forestry grant: Staff said the Forestry Commission awarded Conway an initial grant of $250,000 for urban- and community-forestry work and that a second installment of $19,472.50 had been received, bringing the currently appropriated amount for this grant action to $52,127.50. Council approved amending the ordinance to accept the additional installment; staff said the award is fully reimbursable and requires no local match.

Boards and commissions: The mayor read seven annual board and commission appointments, including John Ed Webb (airport advisory, pilot position), Joanna Randlam (member at large), Thomas Kane, Kevin Lentz and Ryan Webb (Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board), multiple nominees for the Conway Tree Board and Historic District Commission, and Planning Commission nominations including Lori Quinn and Grace Raines. Council approved the appointments by voice vote (8 to 0); several members asked staff to circulate applicant lists and clarify partial-term procedures for nominees who fill vacancies.

Pompey Park lighting: Parks staff requested an appropriation of $27,765 to finish lighting work at Pompey Park related to Conway Corporation’s installation along Morningside. The council moved and approved the appropriation 8 to 0.

All three items were approved by unanimous votes recorded during the meeting. Council directed staff to provide additional procedural details (application lists for appointments) and to bring required follow-up ordinances or appropriation documents as projects progress.
