Board approves personnel, surplus and EC/head-start items; policies move forward for further review

The Cleveland County Board of Education recorded several formal actions during the meeting: approval of the personnel report, a unanimous vote to dispose of surplus items, and approval of an EC staffing contract and Head Start items forwarded from committee.

The personnel report was approved after a motion by Mr. Bridges, seconded by Mr. Humphreys, with an 8–1 tally. The board also voted 9–0 to approve a list of surplus items that was forwarded from committee. Items from the Education Programs & Policy committee — including policy updates drawn from North Carolina School Boards Association guidance and a set of personnel-related policies — were presented as first-read items and will return to the board for subsequent action.

The board approved the EC contract and Head Start materials by a 9–0 vote after committee recommendation; those items will proceed as administration recommended. A first-read series of policy updates covering technology and internet safety, grievance procedures for students/parents and employees, and confidentiality provisions were presented and recorded; the committee recommended those policies be scheduled for second reading and approval at the December meeting.

The meeting included a standard superintendent’s update on exam schedules, teacher work days and upcoming athletics events. No additional contractual awards or budget adoptions were finalized beyond the EC/Head Start approval made on committee recommendation.
