Middleton council adopts traffic and historic-preservation code changes; approves fermented malt beverage license

At its Oct. 21 meeting the Middleton Common Council approved several routine municipal code changes and a business license.
The council unanimously adopted an ordinance to amend section 15.103 of the Middleton Municipal Code to prohibit left turns (except for school buses) from Cromerie Middle School onto Donna Drive; the item was moved and supported on behalf of Public Works and the council confirmed the school district is aware and supportive.
Council also approved an amendment to section 2.35 regarding rehabilitation standards and demolition of structures in historic districts for properties not designated as landmarks. Sponsors said the proposal had been reviewed extensively by the Landmarks Commission and the ordinance includes minor edits noted at the meeting.
A separate update to section 15.11 amending one-way traffic locations was approved after a motion to suspend the rules so staff could present a map; members requested a visual map be provided for additional review.
The council also approved a Class B fermented malt beverage license for Hayashuo Inc., doing business as Happy Walk at 7610 Elmwood Avenue, with Kyle Zhu listed as agent; no members of the public spoke at the hearing.
The meeting opened with proclamations honoring Assistant Fire Chief Gary Gilitzer as First Responder of the Year and recognizing White Cane Safety Day and Friends of the Middleton Public Library Week. Two residents offered public comment in support of a city climate action roadmap and the RSVP driver program for seniors.
