Garden City council approves $30,909 change orders for fire station concrete, adds ADA ramps

Fire Chief Brandy Keane told the council, “What you have before you here is a change order for the concrete that was previously bid, in the amount of $30,909.” Keane said the total comprises two separate change orders: extra labor and materials to remove existing concrete and mesh that were not anticipated, and work to bring a rear entrance up to Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
Keane described the added work in more detail: one removal item was described with a figure delivered in the discussion as “4,673,” and the accessibility work calls for two ramps — a roughly 20-foot ramp consisting of about 6 feet inside and 14 feet outside on the rear of the building, and a run along the north side of about 12 feet — to replace steps that do not meet ADA thresholds.
Council member King moved to approve the change orders to Burrito’s Contracting of Romulus in the amount of $30,909; Council member Dold provided support. The motion passed on a recorded voice vote of 7-0.
The council did not record further amendments or conditions on the approval during the public meeting. Staff and the fire chief will proceed with implementing the contract changes and scheduling the additional work.
Garden City’s mayor and council thanked Chief Keane for the presentation before moving to the next item on the agenda.
