CTE building 70% complete; locker rooms nearly finished and bond contingency remains under $5 million

Construction managers from CS Arch and Jacobs updated the Newburgh City School District board on several capital projects, saying the new Career and Technical Education (CTE) building is roughly 70% complete and locker room renovations are nearly finished.

Tom Ritzenthaler, speaking for CS Arch, said interior fit‑out work is ongoing and permanent power for the CTE building is scheduled; "we're about 70% complete," he told the board. He added that the culinary lab's walk‑in cooler and freezer are being installed and that the elevator delivery is planned for mid‑December.

Ritzenthaler said locker rooms have new floors, wall tile, lockers and benches installed and are "substantially complete," with only a few punch‑list items such as door alarms and stairwell cameras left before turnover to the district.

From a budget perspective, the presenters reported a remaining contingency balance of "just under $5,000,000" and described recent change orders and credits, including ventilation work for a repurposed storage area and minor brick support adjustments.

On other projects, presenters reported that New Windsor Elementary site contractors began foundation work and Proposition 5 phase 1 HVAC/electrical upgrades reached substantial completion; Phase 2 HVAC bids were received and a recommendation to award a mechanical contractor was scheduled for a future board agenda.

What happens next: staff said commissioning and punch‑list work will continue and that the district anticipates occupying the CTE building in the fall after fit‑out and final commissioning are complete. The board was invited to an informational meeting about the CTE programs in January.
