Hoover work session: consent items, appointments, zoning hearing and moratorium extension to appear on Monday agenda

At the work session staff reviewed numerous consent-agenda items that will be on Monday’s regular meeting, including alcohol-license resolutions and concurrent appointments to boards and commissions.

Ms. Dickerson summarized several consent items, saying there were no police- or planning-department objections to the two alcohol-license requests (resolution 8686-25 for Urban Cookhouse on Marble Terrace and 8687-25 for the Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites on Emory Drive). She also reviewed resolution 8688-25, which would concur with the mayor’s appointments to the Planning and Zoning Commission and several other boards; staff said appointment details are in the Monday packet and that the council typically announces appointees at the regular meeting.

Other consent or routine items included a Pitney Bowes agreement (resolution 8725) to provide a new mailing machine for the Public Safety Center and an intergovernmental ordinance first reading to donate small pieces of city right-of-way and grant temporary construction easements to Jefferson County for a sidewalk project at Sulphur Springs and Chase Crest Road.

The city attorney presented an extension of a moratorium on certain new vape-product businesses, extending it through May or until a local ordinance reflecting recent state legislative changes is adopted. Staff said they are updating the ordinance to align with state law.

Mr. Martin flagged a second-reading public-hearing zoning item to change about 7.5 acres at 900 Concourse Parkway to Planned Office; staff said a vote is expected after the public hearing at the regular meeting.

Council did not take votes on these items at the work session; staff asked that they be placed on the Monday agenda for formal consideration.
