Mayor announces free Uptown parking, tree pickup and holiday trash schedule

“There's an ordinance that speaks to this, but now you're in the know for when you can park without having to feed the meter, on those said dates,” the mayor said, listing the Uptown free-parking dates and noting 2-hour meter spaces on Level 1 Upper of the parking garage are excluded.
The mayor gave the parking schedule as: Thursday the 11th after 4 p.m.; Thursday the 18th after 4 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 20 (all day); Wednesday, Dec. 24 (all day); and Thursday, Dec. 25 (all day). The mayor did not provide an ordinance number during the update.
Public works and engineering will pick up real Christmas trees free of charge “starting on the December 30 and running through the month of January,” the mayor said. Residents are asked to remove ornaments and lights, place trees at the curb only after calling 592-3343 to schedule a pickup, and avoid placing artificial trees at the curb. The city plans to mulch accepted trees for reuse at community gardens.
On solid-waste pick-up, the mayor said Thursday collections will be delayed by one day on Christmas Day and likewise delayed by one day for Thursday pickups on New Year's Day. (The transcript of the update included inconsistent numeric dates when discussing the Christmas pickup delay; this article corrects those references to the standard calendar dates: Christmas Day is Dec. 25 and New Year's Day is Jan. 1.)
