Family members and acquaintances testified Nov. 3 in the trial of Jesus (Jesse) Prado, giving lay accounts of the defendant’s upbringing, recent losses and marital strain while prosecutors cross‑examined about prior threats and incidents the family previously did not report.
Omar Hernandez, a brother‑in‑law, described growing up in Dilley, Texas, and said Jesse ‘‘was a broken man’’ after the 2021 death of an older brother that family witnesses said marked a change in his behavior. Jamie Rodriguez, Jesse’s sister, recounted a history of steady employment, involvement in the family, serious prior accidents and, in her words, a day in October 2023 when Jesse ‘‘snapped.’’ Both witnesses told jurors they never expected him to commit violence and emphasized his role as a provider and father.
On cross‑examination, prosecutors questioned witnesses about prior domestic incidents, alleged threats and whether family interventions or mental‑health treatment had been sought before October 2023; several witnesses said some incidents were disclosed to them only after the shooting.
Separately, the court admitted State’s Exhibit 16 — an inmate telephone recording from the Bexar County Jail — after IC Solutions’ Luis Lopez authenticated the recording and confirmed it was unaltered and captured on 11/03/2023 at 12:50. The court also admitted a stipulated document identified as State’s Exhibit 122 concerning bond amounts without objection.
Judge (unnamed in the transcript) told both sides to expect roughly 10 more witnesses and set the next sessions to begin tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., with closing arguments planned for Wednesday if testimony proceeds as scheduled. The court reminded jurors not to research the case or discuss testimony outside the courtroom.
The trial will resume with additional witnesses and scheduling details announced on the record.
