Hoover staff: Fire Station No. 1 change orders are budgeted though project is over by about $50,000

City project staff presented change order requests 24 through 30 for the Fire Station No. 1 construction project and told the council the change orders are funded within the project budget but the project is running about $50,000 over. Mr. Miller said the city budgeted conservatively and that additional change orders will come in future meetings.
Mr. Miller told the council the contractor is subject to liquidated damages beginning Sept. 1 and that, if the contractor finishes by Jan. 1, the city stands to recover about $60,000 in liquidated-damage amounts. He said staff is not requesting additional city funds now and is not proposing internal budget transfers for these change orders.
Council members asked whether additional funds were required; Mr. Miller said no. The item will return to the council agenda in a regular meeting where formal acceptance of change orders is expected.
