City finance staff asked the council to approve a continuing resolution authorizing purchase of 27 vehicles — roughly $2 million — that have arrived early and that staff wants to secure before the formal budget adoption on Dec. 29.
“...we need to go ahead and purchase 27 vehicles in the amount of about $2 million,” Ms. Lopez said, explaining the purchases allow the city to secure the vehicles and avoid interest fees. A councilmember asked whether the split was 10 police and 17 fire; staff clarified purchase totals but did not adjust the continuing-resolution request at the work session.
Chief Morris thanked the council and said vehicle replacements were overdue: “We’ve got several, several vehicles that are in need of replacement and kind of our fleet’s been neglected over the past several years,” he said, and added his appreciation for the council’s consideration.
Lopez also described a proposed agreement with Porter White & Company to provide ongoing municipal financial-advisory services at $60,000 a year to supplement the finance department on policy work and long-term projections. Lopez said the money for the advisory contract would come from savings due to the city’s change in audit firm.
No final vote occurred at the work session; staff said the continuing resolution and the Porter White agreement will be on Monday’s regular meeting agenda for formal action.
