Commission hears development updates: cottage community reading, remap hearings and board vacancy

Staff updated the commission on multiple planning items: a cottage community text amendment and remapping of 501/503 East Market Street are scheduled for Dec. 8 council action; a downtown plan draft will be presented then; and the Board of Adjustment has a vacancy with applications due this week.
Town staff (Speaker 3) briefed the commission on several upcoming planning items and a board vacancy.
Speaker 3 said the cottage community text amendment that would permit cottage community developments in town has completed public hearing and first reading and will be before the council for a second reading on Dec. 8. A separate remapping public hearing for 501 and 503 East Market Street is also scheduled for Dec. 8. "So it's gonna be a busy meeting," Speaker 3 said.
Staff also reported that the downtown development district plan update is nearing completion and a draft will be presented to the council on Dec. 8, including outreach findings and priority projects. Speaker 3 noted that a council-approved remap behind the First Baptist Church of Georgetown will allow a proposed townhouse subdivision to proceed to concept and preliminary subdivision review; staff did not specify the number of lots or units.
Finally, Speaker 3 said the Board of Adjustment has had difficulty filling a vacancy and that the application period for candidates ends this week; interested bona fide Georgetown residents should use the new committee interest form on the town website.
No formal actions were taken on these items; staff asked commissioners to refer interested residents and to watch the Dec. 8 council agenda for multiple related items.
