Lakemore council approves budget, police equipment contract and a series of personnel and intergovernmental agreements

The Village of Lakemore council approved a package of ordinances and resolutions at its November meeting, including the fiscal-year appropriations ordinance for 2026, personnel actions for the fire department, an intergovernmental agreement with the city of Akron for prosecutorial services and a five-year contract with Axon Enterprise for police equipment.
Council adopted Ordinance 1906-2025, which sets appropriations for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2026. The ordinance lists program-level appropriations including police salaries and benefits ($688,924.26), fire salaries and benefits ($58,000), water operating and sewer funds, and capital improvements; the clerk read total budget figures into the record.
The council also adopted Resolution 07508-2025 authorizing an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Akron to provide prosecutorial services in Akron Municipal Court for 2025–2027; the resolution was declared an emergency to take effect immediately upon council approval and mayoral signature.
On personnel matters the council approved Resolution 7513-2025 to hire Mikayla Whaley as a full‑time firefighter for the Lakemore Fire Department at $20 per hour with health insurance after 60 days, and approved Resolution 7514-2025 accepting the resignation of McKenna Ray as a part‑time firefighter/medic, effective as recorded in the resolution.
For public safety technology, council approved Resolution 7515-2025 authorizing the police chief to enter a five‑year contract with Axon Enterprise (2026–2030); the resolution includes a year‑one cost of $3,666.96 and estimated annual costs of $8,250.66 for years two through five as presented in the contract summary read at the meeting.
Council also approved Resolution 7516-2025 authorizing the mayor to enter an agreement with the County of Summit (through the Summit County Engineer) for 2026 road paving and maintenance, and Resolution 7517-2025 permitting the assistant fire chief to enter an MOU with the American Red Cross Northern Ohio region (effective 12/01/2025–12/01/2028).
All of the above measures were described on the record, dispensed with additional readings when motions to do so were made, and were approved by roll-call votes recorded during the meeting.
The council closed the meeting after routine announcements and community updates; a public hearing on proposed new water rates is scheduled for Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. before the next council meeting.
