Spencer County Fiscal Court approved two infrastructure items on Dec. 1: payment of $22,300 to K & B Electrical Services for required electrical work at the county recycling center (a cost-share/match tied to a grant) and authorization to purchase and install a wireless, user‑friendly audio/video system for meetings with a not‑to‑exceed cap of $6,400.
County staff said the recycling grant produced equipment (skid steer, bailer, trailers) valued at roughly $82,920 and required an electrical match; invoices exceeded the anticipated match by about $2,000, and the court approved paying the contractor to complete required electrical work so grant equipment can be fully operational.
Separately, staff reviewed surplus AV gear complications (wired system, integration issues) and proposed replacing it with a wireless system that would simplify livestreaming and centralize recordings. Commissioners discussed previous LEPC contributions to equipment and advised staff to coordinate with LEPC before surplus disposition; nevertheless the court approved moving forward with the purchase and installation not to exceed $6,400 and allowed staff to proceed with a plan to sell surplus equipment and apply proceeds to county accounts.
What’s next: Finance staff will issue the electrical payment and IT/operations staff will finalize purchase/installation plans for the new AV system and manage surplus equipment per existing agreements.
