Public Works committee reports road closures, no-parking signs and roundabout progress

At the Rossford City Council meeting on Dec. 8, the Public Works Committee gave a detailed update on local street and utility projects, including traffic-safety and construction scheduling that will affect residents in the coming months.
Committee chair Zach said the committee met Dec. 3 and heard from the Northwestern Water and Sewer District representative about district improvements in Rossford and Wood County. The committee reported that no-parking signs will be installed on the east side of Jennings Road and on the north side of Hawthorne as those areas near completion.
Zach also said a contractor for the Redwood development across from an elementary school in Perrysburg Township will close a portion of Lime City Road beginning Tuesday, Dec. 9 after morning drop-off and reopening before afternoon pickup each day for a week while utilities are installed across the roadway. Hillcrest and Riverside neighborhoods will see underground utility replacements (storm, sanitary and water) in the coming weeks with curbs, gutters, sidewalks and paving scheduled in spring after school ends.
Committee members discussed safety concerns about removing traffic-control islands; Police Chief Kitzler (referenced in audience remarks) and committee members indicated the islands help direct traffic and the committee wants them to remain in place. Allison (city administration) was asked to contact consultant Tetra Tech to request design changes to retain the islands.
The committee noted resident complaints that hydroseeding on Jennings was less precise than on Colony/Long Legged Hill and attributed variability to weather and crew conditions. Staff also reported several projects with state identifiers: PID 107711 (Grassy Creek Bridge on State Route 65) and the Bergen/Glenwood roundabout project (ODOT PID 116382), for which Vernon Nagle Inc. was the low bidder and was awarded the contract by council.
The committee asked that contractor performance expectations be communicated at pre-construction meetings, and that requested changes from Tetra Tech be provided before the committee's next meeting. Public outreach items included a snow-removal reminder and continuing leaf pickup through Dec. 19. The committee also thanked public-works staff, citing recent snow cleanup.
