Fairview honors Fairview Titans, BizTown student and FCCLA care-closet plan

The Board recognized local youth and school programs at its Dec. 4 meeting. Commissioners honored the Fairview Titans junior pro football team for an undefeated season and no points allowed; coaches and program leaders accepted the recognition and coaches offered brief remarks.
Fairview Elementary fifth-grader Nico McNeil delivered a campaign-style BizTown speech and served briefly as the meeting's assistant mayor, drawing praise from the mayor and commissioners. Students from Fairview High School's FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) described plans to establish a care closet in the school to provide hygiene items, clothing and school supplies to students in need and asked for community donations and support. Amy Perkerson, FCCLA sponsor, said the closet will be centrally located in the student-support office and monitored by staff so students and faculty can access items discreetly.
Commissioners welcomed the initiatives and encouraged community participation in donation drives and attendance at the upcoming tree lighting and parade.
