Summary
The commission approved emergency procurements for Stewart Creek bank repairs and a new Justice Center metal detector, renewed an IT after-hours support contract at reduced hours, and extended the recorder's records-management software for one year.
At its Dec. 4 meeting, the Christian County Commission approved several procurement actions spanning emergency repairs, courthouse security, information-technology support and records management.
Highway staff described emergency work at Stewart Creek to shore up bank erosion that threatened county right-of-way; contractor J & H Excavating completed the work in three to four days using surplus rock from a county campus and replaced a property fence. Commissioners ratified the emergency procurement and asked staff to follow up with the adjacent property owner, who remains concerned about future erosion risks.
Facility staff reported that a metal detector at the Justice Center was beyond warranty and partially nonfunctional; vendor repair estimates ranged from $1,000–$3,000 just to evaluate, while a replacement unit cost approximately $8,000. The commission authorized an emergency purchase for a new detector to maintain court-security screening.
The commission also renewed a technology-services contract that provides after-hours support and an escalation point for county IT. The 2024 contract was adjusted to 16 hours per month at $1,600/month after staff determined fewer hours were required with increased in-house capacity.
Finally, the county recorder requested a one-year renewal of a records-management system from I County Technologies, citing off-site backups and automatic updates. Staff advertised per statutory bidding requirements and recommended renewal; the commission approved the one-year extension.
Commissioners emphasized safety and continuity of services, and staff confirmed statutory posting and procurement steps were followed where required. The procurements will be processed through routine purchasing channels and the auditor’s office.
