Peabody council approves mayor’s slate of board appointments

Peabody — The City Council on Thursday unanimously confirmed a slate of appointments Mayor Bettencourt presented to fill vacancies ahead of 2026. The council approved Kevin Venagro and Robert (Bob) Dunn to the historical commission, Daryl Ann McCarthy to the licensing board and Jeffrey (Jeff) Saliba to the planning board.
Mayor Bettencourt said Venagro has served as an alternate on the historical commission and that Dunn, a longtime veterans council commander, would bring experience honoring veterans’ monuments. The mayor described McCarthy as a former secretary/administrator for the liquor licensing board and a longtime city staffer, and said Saliba, a business manager for the Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, brings experience on construction, safety and zoning issues.
Councilor Rossignol moved to receive and approve the mayor’s recommendations. After brief comments of support from several councilors, the body took a roll‑call vote and the motion carried 11–0.
The appointments were presented as part of the council’s end‑of‑year business and will take effect according to each board’s rules. Mayor Bettencourt also publicly honored the late planning‑board member Peter Avenitis during the presentation.
