The commission heard a progress report on CDA’s Ag Behavioral Health work group and upcoming summit. Robert presented the work group's charge — compiling best practices, identifying gaps in services (especially for agricultural workers), and reporting recommendations to the legislature under SB 24‑055 — and said the group has met monthly since December.
Work group composition and activity: Commissioner Greenberg appointed 15 members including behavioral health providers, individuals with lived experience, extension specialists, tribal representatives and partners from CSU and AgAbility. The group formed three subcommittees (best practices, worker supports, communications) and has begun compiling data and resources. Robert highlighted COMET training and coordination with the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).
Summit and outreach: the department reported more than 90 registrants for an upcoming Ag Behavioral Health summit and previewed partner organizations (Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, Farm Aid, AgAbility, regional health networks). The department is also showing a short film (Legacy) to generate local discussion and plans multiple public screenings and panels at water and agricultural conferences.
Next steps: the work group will continue monthly meetings, develop a communication plan, complete data collection on gaps (including attention to worker populations such as egg workers), and deliver recommendations to the legislature as required by statute.
