Paulding County seeks $2.55M from GDOT LMIG with 30% local match for resurfacing

Paulding County staff asked the Board of Commissioners to authorize the chairman to apply for a Georgia Department of Transportation Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) totaling $2,554,386.83.
Staff explained the LMIG allocation is formula based and calculated using county population and public road miles; private street mileage is excluded. The county is required by program rules to provide a minimum 30% local match, which staff said would equal $766,316.05 and would be funded from the general fund.
The application materials presented included a preliminary project list and cost estimates. Staff identified two county roads as candidates totaling about 8.6 miles — Bakersbridge Road and East Paulding Drive — but emphasized the list is not binding and roads may be omitted or changed during final project selection. The application must be filed with GDOT by Feb. 1, 2026, or the county risks losing the funding opportunity, staff said.
Staff noted the LMIG award is a roughly 15% increase from the prior year’s award and recommended the board authorize submittal so the funds can be encumbered and used for resurfacing work in Post 1 and Post 3 as needed.
What’s next: If the board authorizes the application, staff will submit the LMIG application to GDOT and later return with a finalized project list, cost estimates and a proposed schedule for letting and construction.
