Monticello council clears consent agenda, highlights holiday events and annual reports

Monticello’s City Council approved the consent agenda on Dec. 8, voting to accept claims (11/25/2025–12/08/2025), meeting minutes and the police and fire reports for November 2025.
The mayor highlighted upcoming community events, including the Candles and Carols event downtown (Dec. 18, 5–8 p.m.), free carriage rides and a Rotary Park selfie station, and thanked the State Bank of Bement for sponsoring the event. The Sangamon Valley CEO class’s Gingerbread Jog (Dec. 20) and the Holiday Glow at Allerton Park were also promoted.
Police Chief Robert said enforcement continues on downtown parking, noting routine patrols and ticketing for improperly created parking spots. Fire Chief John Rupke reported on recent mutual-aid trainings, vehicle maintenance and new members to be presented to council next month.
Council members offered brief reflections on the recent parade and volunteer efforts. With routine business complete, council moved, seconded and unanimously voted to adjourn; the mayor closed the meeting with ‘See you in 2026.’
