"So now you can use a gun to basically scan it, trace it, and keep better track of it," the chief said.
The department sought an inventory and audit from Fortress Plus Solutions at a total cost of $9,203. The chief proposed using drug seizure funds to pay that expense and said the inventory will reduce liability and improve evidence tracking for long-term criminal cases.
Committee members asked whether the expenditure requires committee approval; staff said it likely does not since it would be funded from the seizure account and the item was presented as an update on modernization.
No formal committee vote on the funding was recorded during the meeting; the chief presented the update and took questions.
