LaSalle council approves two mobile food vendor permits amid neighbor noise concerns

The LaSalle City Council on a routine agenda approved two mobile food vendor permits for Beanbox Espresso and Get Sauce LLC, but aldermen said they want to ensure the permits don’t create noise problems for nearby residents.

Holly Iverson applied on behalf of Beanbox Espresso to operate under an existing special-event permit at "midnight madness" locations; staff said the business still needed a separate mobile food vendor permit. For Get Sauce LLC, staff said the applicant is seeking Fridays and Saturdays from a private parking lot and that the city’s limit for food truck operations is 12 events per year. "Friday[s] and Saturdays is what he's asking for, but the number of times a food truck can operate in the city of LaSalle is up to 12," a city staff member said during the meeting.

Aldermen raised concerns about generator noise near residences. One alderman noted the vendor would run a generator and pointed out homes immediately east and north of the proposed site. The council directed staff to confirm permitting language and monitoring procedures; staff said operators must contact the city before each event so the city can track the number of times they operate.

Council motions to grant both mobile vendor permits were made, seconded and approved by voice vote.

The council did not specify ongoing enforcement steps in detail at the meeting beyond staff’s statement that permits can be rescinded if operations disturb nearby residences.
