During other business, members debated whether to move regular committee start times later to accommodate work schedules. One member asked for a 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. start to avoid conflicts; staff noted that the current 3:00 p.m. start accommodates departmental presentation schedules and prevents very late evenings for staff when budget hearings run long. Committee members agreed on a compromise: maintain 3:00 p.m. starts for January through April (the period with department presentations and double meetings) and consider a later start time at other times of the year if needed. The committee gave staff direction to schedule budget hearings consistent with that approach.
