The Village of Gurnee on Dec. 1 promoted Deputy Chief Jeremy Gaughan to chief of police and swore in Commander Jason Kalinowski as deputy chief of operations.
During the meeting Mayor Thomas Hood and village staff summarized Gaughan’s career: he began law enforcement service in 1999, joined the Gurnee Police Department in 2002, has held assignments including deputy chief of operations and investigations commander, and has received multiple recognitions. Staff cited his military service in the U.S. Army Reserves, deployments to Iraq, and relevant professional education. Gaughan took the oath of office at the meeting and thanked the board, his family and department members.
Jason Kalinowski was introduced as a department member since 2008 who has served as a patrol commander, helped found the visitor‑oriented policing unit and led community programs such as Shop with a Cop; Kalinowski took the oath to become deputy chief of operations and thanked colleagues and family in brief remarks.
The board recorded a roll‑call vote approving the promotions and then held the swearing‑in ceremony; family members and department personnel attended.
