District staff presented proposed adjustments to the classified management salary schedules for two positions: food-service director and transportation director. The changes aim to make those positions more competitive with comparable districts.
Staff said the food-service director salary schedule would increase by an average of 21% across cells, moving that role from the lowest rank (8 of 8) to 6 of 8 among comparables. The transportation director schedule would increase by an average of 28.5% across cells, moving from the bottom (7 of 7) to 5 of 7 in comparables. Staff acknowledged the increases are substantial but said they reflect how far the district is behind peer districts.
A board member asked where the revised total compensation would sit relative to comparable districts; staff said high-end total compensation (including benefits) for the food-service role would be about $168,000 (compared with mid-170s in comparables) and for transportation would be just under $165,000 (compared with about $170,000 in comparables). The board moved to approve the revisions; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff confirmed the adjustments are retroactive to July 1.
What’s next: Human Resources and Business Services will implement the pay schedule changes and process retroactive adjustments. The board did not specify the dollar amount of the retroactive payroll adjustment for individual employees at the meeting.
