The policy chair read both resolutions, which listed employees and milestone years including 5-, 10-, 30- and 35-year recognitions and named Barbara McLean (listed in the resolution) among retirees.
During public comment, Jason Benda, identifying himself as a facilities department employee, praised his lead custodian (named in his remarks as Melissa) for years of service and for handling wide-ranging responsibilities and staff support across county facilities. Benda said custodial staff often perform informal management tasks and that recognition is deserved.
Board members used the communications portion of the meeting to highlight community services: one member announced a new emergency winter shelter at the Old Armory (Park and 2nd Streets in Champaign) with an open house scheduled for tomorrow from 4 to 5 p.m.; intake will be handled through Cunningham Township or Strides and the shelter will not be a walk-in operation.
