MPO staff update project tracking, report no federal funds obligated yet and preview 18-month letting list

Tim, MPO staff, summarized quarterly project tracking for Tippecanoe County and city projects: the environmental document for the North 9th Street bridge project was approved Oct. 8; Phase 1 of Morehouse Road passed final inspection Oct. 9 and phase 2 asphalt is being placed with the road to be temporarily opened to traffic over winter; Section 106 work for Bridges 80 and 83 is nearly complete; and MPO staff expect new county bridge inspection contracts in January.
On federal funding obligations, Doug said the MPO has not yet obligated federal gas-tax funds for the program year and staff are tracking projects to meet the April obligation deadline. On the 18-month letting list, Doug walked through multiple projects: some December 10 bids were received (five bidders on one project), the low bid on that letting was $2,747,400 from Calumet Civil Contractors but the bids were above the engineers estimate and the project may move to a future month. Doug said he expects the North 9th Street bridge letting in March and other 9th Street phases in February.
Doug also said the State Road 25 Hoosier Heartland project (MSC walls) should be added to the 18-month letting list and staff will push to advance it as quickly as possible.
The board had no questions and accepted the update.
