A board committee recommended Gallagher as the district's health-insurance broker for its self-funded plan, citing K-12 experience, on-site support, and an emphasis on employee education; the board took no formal action and will return this for a future vote.
The board heard a recommendation from the district’s health-insurance interview team to select Gallagher as the broker for Kaneland CUSD 302’s self-funded health plan.
Patty Reeder, co-chair of the health-insurance committee, said the team interviewed the incumbent broker Horton and Gallagher and recommends Gallagher based on its K–12 experience (more than 200 districts), a team-based account model, frequent touchpoints, a co-created annual calendar of actions and timelines, and support for employee education and open-enrollment services. “Gallagher really stood out to the team,” Reeder said. Ms. Simmons, a board member and part of the committee, emphasized Gallagher’s on-site commitment during open enrollment and its potential to help staff better use resources such as the employee-assistance program and understand pharmacy benefit changes.
Administrators noted the district has a self-funded plan and that proposals were scored by the interview team. The presentation included expected long-term cost-saving potential from improved employee engagement and benefit navigation. There was no action on the selection at this meeting; the item will be returned for formal approval at a later date.
