Elyria honors four longtime public servants at council meeting

Mayor Brubaker opened Elyria City Council’s December meeting by presenting proclamations honoring four departing officials. The mayor read a proclamation recognizing Michael J. Lotko for 30 years of service to the city and noted Lotko’s roles as council member, council president and clerk of council. Brubaker also presented farewell proclamations to council members Thomas G. Callahan and Victor F. Stewart III and to councilwoman Mary F. Saworka.
The proclamations drew remarks from the honorees and their colleagues. Council members and department heads praised the outgoing members’ institutional knowledge and years of public service; Finance Director Pulaski and Law Director Deary also offered congratulations on behalf of city administration. In his remarks, Lotko was described as known for the phrase, “Let’s just get it done,” a characterization read aloud during the proclamation.
The presentations were ceremonial and did not involve council votes. The council recessed briefly after the recognitions and then continued with regular business and a strategic planning session that included a zoning-code presentation.
