Kings County supervisors approve consent calendar, move into closed session on anticipated litigation

The Kings County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the consent calendar at a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 11, then moved into closed session to consult with legal counsel about anticipated litigation.

The meeting was opened by the Chair, who announced the date and the reported start time and asked the clerk to call the roll. The clerk named five supervisors — Joe Neves; Richard Ballard; Doug Verboone; Rusty Robinson; and Robert Thayer — and recorded each as present. "We have all 5 members present today," the Chair said.

On the consent calendar (agenda item 2), "Moved by Supervisor Neves," the record shows. A second was called but the transcript does not clearly record which supervisor seconded the motion. The clerk then called the roll on the motion; each named supervisor was recorded as voting in favor, and the Chair stated, "5 in favor. Item passes."

After disposing of the consent calendar, the board voted to go into closed session. County Counsel told the board there was one closed-session matter: "conference with legal counsel, anticipated litigation, significant exposure to litigation," and returned the floor to the Chair. The public portion of the special meeting then concluded and the Chair adjourned the meeting until Dec. 16 at 9:00 a.m.
