Staff presented the capital plan and operating budget, highlighting near‑term priorities including replacement of the automated weather observing system (AWOS), exterior gate improvements, taxiway reconstruction and the main east–west runway resurfacing (in current configuration). Staff noted several projects are staged over multiple years and some may be eligible for Bureau of Aeronautics (BOA) grants; the city’s projected share for the AWOS replacement was noted as approximately $1,500 if BOA funding is secured.
Commissioners asked staff to emphasize public benefits — including pilots and local residents who rely on AWOS data — when discussing the budget with council and constituents. A motion to approve the capital and operating budgets was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will forward the approved budgets to the common council for inclusion in broader city budget work and will continue to pursue BOA grant opportunities for major capital items.
