Lawrence committee advances multiple parking petitions, tables and withdraws others

The Lawrence City Ordinance & Intergovernmental Relations Committee on Dec. 9 approved numerous parking-related petitions to advance to the full City Council for public hearings, tabled items needing clarification and withdrew others as part of docket housekeeping.
Detective Hegarty recommended favorable action on a number of handicap-parking and childcare-parking petitions. "That's a favorable recommendation for handicap parking," he said on several items. The committee routinely moved those petitions — including a handicap space at 124 Trenton (doc 42425) and at 151 Willow (doc 43925) — to the full council with instructions for public hearings. One request for no parking on Pearl Street (doc 43025) received an unfavorable recommendation and was withdrawn after discussion of overcrowding in North Lawrence.
The committee tabled doc 45925 after noticing an address mismatch between the agenda and paperwork (446 vs. 464). Chair Mark LaPlante asked staff to correct the ordinance entry before the item proceeds.
Under new business the committee referred a resident-parking item at Lansdowne Street (doc 47425) and a childcare-parking petition at 556 Howard Street (doc 47525) to the police department for review. Members also grouped and withdrew a large set of older items (dating from 2024) in blocks to clear the docket; they asked staff to follow up with the city engineer and DPW on outstanding traffic-study and one-way street requests.
The meeting closed after motions to advance, table or withdraw the agenda items and the chair called for adjournment.
Next steps: Advancements will appear on the full council agenda for public hearings; the police department and city engineer will be asked to report back on the tabling and withdrawn items.
