Lawrence council honors Councilor Wendy Luzon as members praise her service

Councilors on Dec. 16 publicly recognized Councilor Wendy Luzon for two years serving District B and presented her with a plaque.
Council President called a point of personal privilege to present the plaque and highlighted Luzon’s willingness to speak up for constituents. "Through your seat and your position as a councilor, you serve with dignity, respect, and more importantly, with an open mouth," the council president said during the presentation.
Several colleagues offered remarks. One councilor thanked Luzon for paving the way for women and for mentoring new leaders; another praised her courage in asking tough questions and said her presence on the council has been important to legislative oversight.
Luzon accepted the recognition and thanked the people who elected her. "I am proud of serving District B with dignity and with an independent voice," she said. She described the role as one of service to residents rather than to an administration and said she was honored to have served.
The council paused for a group photo and submitted the recognition material for the meeting record.
