Seymour’s City Council voted to purchase a Cat 255C skid steer for the street department following a review of competing bids.
Street-department supervisor Ronnie presented bid options and recommended one of the mid-range machines; council members discussed price, available vehicle-reserve funds (a reserve left from sale of prior equipment) and a 30-day quote validity window. A motion to purchase the Cat 255C quoted at $72,638.71 carried by voice vote; staff said the unit could be delivered as early as the following Monday per vendor remarks.
Council discussed keeping the old skid steer as a backup due to its remaining utility and the tradeoff between maintenance of older equipment and acquiring newer, more reliable machinery.
The purchase will be funded from the vehicle-reserve account and processed by city staff according to purchasing policy.
