Dr. Herzog told the finance committee the district’s exit meeting with auditors from KPM was “very positive” and that the 2024–25 audit report the district received mirrored that exit meeting. He said the district anticipates a clean audit based on the materials submitted and the exit discussion.
The treasurer noted the federal portion of the audit was not completed because auditors could not access necessary federal data during an earlier federal government shutdown. Because of that delay, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has extended the deadline for the federal portion to Jan. 31, 2026. Dr. Herzog said the district will present the portions of the audit it has now to the audit committee (KPM’s John Cummings will attend) and the board, and then submit the remainder to DESE once the federal portion is complete.
Dr. Herzog described typical federal selections (for example, special education Part B and Title programs) and said a significant portion of this year’s federal review was special education Part B because it is a large federal program for the district.
What’s next: KPM will deliver the audit report to the audit committee for questions; the district will submit the federal portion to DESE by the Jan. 31 extension and return to the audit committee/board for approval on that portion when it becomes available.
