The Brookings School District board approved routine business items on the consent agenda and several individual actions.
The consent agenda — including minutes, the financial report, bills, personnel report and open enrollments — was moved, seconded and approved.
The board approved a list of donated items. Notable donations included a $5,000 gift to the enrichment program from GDM Solutions (Michelle Nelson) and contributions to Hillcrest School from the VFW Auxiliary; multiple families and individuals donated to the Schools Giving Thanksgiving meal program. Dr. Schultz described the Schools Giving program as a hands‑on Thanksgiving meal prepared and served by special education students and staff.
The board approved the certified staff seniority list (years of service as of the start of the current school year) after confirming it reflects years of service and coordination with the BEA where appropriate.
Other routine actions approved included canceling the January 26 workshop meeting because key individuals will be out of town, declaring old Camelot concert risers surplus for disposal (with a board member asking that disposal prevent salvaging of unsafe material), and approving a health and dental insurance "holiday" for all employees in December while noting the holiday depends on available funding.
Votes were recorded by roll call at several points; the clerk/staff (Stacy) handled roll calls and publication requirements where necessary.
What’s next: Items approved will be reflected in district records and minutes; staff will manage donation acknowledgments, disposal logistics for surplus risers and timing/communication for the employee insurance holiday.
