Summary
Superintendent Anderson updated the board on school visits to study declining enrollment, student-led mentorship work from Teens Inc and Apex students’ modular housing project in partnership with community organizations; the board celebrated the new New Vista High School ribbon cutting.
Superintendent Doctor Anderson used the Nov. 18 board meeting to report on recent school visits and district programs.
Anderson said board members toured Foothill, Mesa and Douglas elementary schools to observe differences in grade‑configurations and operational approaches as the district assesses declining enrollment. He thanked principals and teachers for hosting the visits and said the tours informed board governance discussions.
Anderson recognized student accomplishments: Centaurus High School freshman Cameron Parker finished in the top 10 at the Colorado Civics Bee and presented an idea about disaster management in Washington, D.C. He also noted Apex (formerly Boulder Tech) students organized meals for neighbors affected by SNAP freezes and employment disruptions.
Highlighting career‑technical learning, Anderson described a partnership between Apex construction‑trades students, Flatirons, Habitat for Humanity, the city of Boulder and BVSD that produced net‑zero modular home units. The district said the first modular units built by students were placed at the Ponderosa Community in North Boulder and more units will continue through the assembly line in the coming months.
Anderson closed by announcing the ribbon cutting for the completed New Vista High School building (made possible by voter approval of the 2022 bond) and thanked voters and community partners.
Board members responded with thanks and reflections on the value of student projects and the role of district partnerships in providing affordable housing and hands‑on learning.
