After discussion, Director Alex moved to pass the revised policy after striking the newly inserted green language; the motion was seconded by Beth. A roll‑call vote passed, with one recorded no vote from Sargent and the remainder voting yes.
Religion in schools policy (IGAC, item 10.11): Quinlan proposed separating and broadening an existing sentence so that the district’s prohibition on religious invocations, benedictions and formal prayers would apply to all district‑sponsored events rather than appearing only under a graduation‑focused subheading. After discussion about unintended consequences for unofficial student actions (for example, singing at funerals) and potential staff coercion concerns, Quinlan moved to add a neutrality sentence to the policy. The amendment—"the school district shall not conduct or sanction any service that is religious in nature and shall not include religious invocations or formal prayer at school‑sponsored events"—was seconded by Kitty and passed by roll call.
Consent and other policy business: The board approved a broad consent grouping that included personnel items, contract amendments, several grant acceptances and a listed Marshall Fire litigation settlement. Several other policy items were approved on consent. Board members instructed staff to bring redlines for some older policies (ADA educational philosophy and IA instructional goals) for future consideration or removal.
